S&P 500 dips after four days of gains; earnings eyed

The S&P 500 broke a four-day string of gains, ending slightly lower on Friday as an unexpected drop in the U.S. unemployment rate was overshadowed by concerns about the coming earnings season, which begins with Alcoa next week.

All three major U.S. stock indexes came off session highs by afternoon trade, with the S&P 500 turning negative for the first time this week, as investors braced for weak corporate results.

Refined soy oil declined further in major spot markets Thursday on loose supply and strong rupee. Although smart recovery witnessed in futures market on shortcovering.

Turmeric finger priced at Rs. 5,600 per quintal in Erode, root variety quoted at Rs 5,300 salem per quintal, Salem finger at Rs 6,000 per quintal and Salem root at Rs 5,700 per quintal. Arrivals stood at 4,500 bags.

India will borrow Rs 2 lakh crore through bonds in the second half of the current fiscal 
year, in line with the budget estimate this year. Government has stuck to its FY13 
market borrowing programme for second half of the ongoing fiscal year and ruled out 
additional borrowings during the remainder of FY13. Economists are still skeptical that 
the Government will be able to meet its fiscal deficit forecast of 5.1% of GDP for FY13. 
Already, the Government's subsidy burden is running higher than budget estimates.


U.S markets closed its best third quarter since 2010  after a wave of central bank 
actions sparked a dramatic reversal in equity markets, but signs of weakness in the 
economy drove stocks lower

Indian equity indices managed to extend the current  winning streak, belying 
expectations of some softening, as FII inflows continued unabated. The Government too 
carried forward its reforms agenda by announcing relief package for the debt-ridden 
power sector; the rupee rose versus the US dollar to touch a five-month high, while the 
stock indices hit 16-month highs. Technically Nifty this week may consolidate although it 
is in bull run and may continue the bull run; Nifty this week may range 5530-5880.
